Women and Leadership in the Sports Industry

October 2022

How Women can be supporting each other to achieve success in a typically male dominated industry

Every day I am seeing more opportunities for Women in the sports industry. Every day we are getting better at promoting the important roles that Women are playing in the sports industry. For example today the Office for Women and Sport announced the successful recipients of their grant programs. They announced that they are supporting 96 women to advance their skills and knowledge by supporting women at every stage of their careers to be the best that they can be. Click here to read the press release. It is great to see the State Government being supportive of so many women to take the next step in their journey.

Strive Sport loves to see women being supported and given opportunities to improve and grow. It is important that we can celebrate all the wonderful women working hard to make a difference in the sports industry. There are some amazing female athletes, coaches and administrators working hard to be role models for the next generation of young women.

How do you support and promote women in the sports industry? When you walk in to a room for a meeting do you find the one other women and connect with her and make sure that she feels supported and enabled? Do you help her voice be heard?

On the 11th October it was the International Day of the Girl where we celebrated girls in Sport. Strive Sport attended the Women Sport Australia Breakfast where we heard from an amazing panel of speakers sharing about how we as an industry are going to capitalise on the momentum that we have established in promoting Women in the Sports Industry. The panel was led by Demelza Fellowes and on the panel was Kieran Perkins, (OAM) Australian Sports Commission, Sharelle McMahon (OAM) Cricket Victoria, Dr Fiona Mclachlan – Victoria University, and Sarah Walsh – Football Australia. All the panel members shared some amazing stories about what we are doing and how far we have come in enabling Women in Sport. Kieran Perkins stated that “We are leaders, We are all role models for the future.”

What are you doing as a role model for the next generation? The Strive Sport Women’s Leadership Program can help you be the best you can be. For more information click here or send us email on info@strivesport.com.au to find out more.
